Netflix Explained Intro

Background

Netflix is today the world’s leading internet entertainment service with 158 million paid memberships in over 190 countries. The company’s primary business is its subscription-based streaming service which offers online streaming of a library of films and television programs, including those produced in-house. One of the in house series is the documentary show Explained, a serie with each episode focusing on a different topic. 

 

Challenge

In order to please the viewer, Netflix tries to find different ways to make it easier to “binge watch“. Netflix now offers the viewer to skip the intro of the episode. Often, all the episodes of the series have the exact same intro and the repetition can be disturbing for the viewer. But is this the right way to help the viewer and the series Explained? With a straggle of different topics the intro has an important role in establishing the identity of the series. So, how can we create an intro that is appreciated by the Netflix viewers? 

 

Solution

With a playful and abstract expression the new intro pictures the topic of the specific episode. The intro create a curiosity and a great way to lead the viewer into the episode. No one will fast forward the new intro of Explained!
